Saugus has a rich history, and one of the most famous parts of that history is the Saugus Iron Works National Historic Site. Originally established in 1646, this historic site is where the ironworks along the Saugus River was initially established. The landmark is considered the birthplace of the steel and iron industry in America. It was the original sustainable ironworks in British Colonial America. This location has been preserved and is run by the National Park Service, so visitors can come and learn about its history while viewing a blacksmith shop, nature trail, water wheels, and a house from the 17th century.

There’s plenty of water to visit around the town, as it’s close to the North Shore, and there are many lakes with trails and excellent views. The Breakheart Reservation has a dog park, two freshwater lakes, and is a hot spot for hikers.

The town has many local and big-box retailers for residents to enjoy. There are typical malls with all the retailers who are well-known, and there are local vendors with unique offerings. The Coven’s Cottage, Magika, and Omen: Psychic Parlor and Witchcraft Emporium are all local shops that offer goods and services around witchcraft. 

Saugus is home to a large Italian population, which has a large influence on the local cuisine. Some of the local favorites include Polcari’s, Prince Pizzeria, and La Vita Mia.

Schools that serve Saugus include Lynnhurst Elementary, Oaklandvale Elementary, Waybright Elementary, Veterans Memorial Elementary, Belmonte Middle School, and Saugus High School.
