There are under 20,000 residents that live in Winthrop among the five different neighborhoods that make up the city. Winthrop became a city in 1630, making it one of the oldest in the country. Due to this, it has a rich history and many museums and sites to visit. John Winthrop, a former governor of Massachusetts, inspired the name, and his old home is now a historic site. It’s a well-known place because of this, but it remains that small town in spirit.

Winthrop is the place where everyone knows everyone’s name, and residents are extremely friendly and courteous. You can meet numerous friendly people while exploring the area. If you love the outdoors, you can visit the beaches, parks, and trails. If you love retail therapy, there are plenty of little shops and boutiques to visit that you can’t find elsewhere. For foodies, there are numerous local restaurants to visit.

The state worked with Winthrop to turn Deer Island into an expansive green space with a trail and amazing views of Harbor Island. The park takes up about a third of the island, and a state-of-the-art sewage plant takes up the rest of the island. Deer Island is a great day trip adventure for residents.

For parents, there are many excellent schools for children. Arthur T. Cummings Elementary School and William P. Gorman/Fort Banks Elementary School is available for elementary students. Winthrop Middle School is in the area for middle school students. Winthrop High School is the local school for high schoolers. These schools are all above the national average for quality.

Winthrop is an escape from the fast-paced life of the big city, and people move here because of the relaxed and laid back atmosphere. There’s a variety of properties available for all budgets and tastes. You can find your dream home in Winthrop.
